Action: The Details Within...

What Creates an Action Movie?

Action movies are one of the most known and straight off the head movie genres people can name. But why? Well, this genre has created some of the most known movies in history.

Starting with just the question, "Name me an action movie," people automatically will think of movies such as James Bond or Indiana Jones. They'll also think of any movie that had any sort of action in it and just blurt it out. This is because action movies are so broad in their genre selection that most movies that involve some sort of action can be categorized within this genre.

Techniques:

The techniques used in Action Movies are mostly the same, but every movie incorporates their own usage of these techniques. All action movies use an establishing shot for every setting they are going to. Sometimes they even incorporate a comment on where the location takes place, adding it to the overall layout of the movie. Other times movies will use a specific structure that is easily recognizable to a certain setting.

Action Movies also deal heavily on movement. Action movies will always try and show as much movement as possible in order to keep the audience entertained and at the edge of their seats. This is mainly so that the actors can act to the best of their abilities when they are to "throw a punch" because the camera will most quick enough that it won't capture the fake punch at all. Some movies that is known for their movement are the Kings-man movies. Using camera movement throughout any of their action scenes make the audience understand what's going on, but also incorporate as much action as possible.

Marketing for action movies is pretty simple, yet affective way of capturing the audience. Using various shots of multiple actions scenes can make up an effective trailer. The trailer will most likely use more dialogue in between action scenes, but will use any piece of action that seems exciting and that is left on a cliffhanger. For example, movies such as "Uncharted" have recently come out with new trailers, where the character at the end is flying through the air of a plane with cargo falling with him. It leaves the audience to wonder how they will manage to survive, and end up going to watch the movie for the suspense they were left with. Action movies also cast many major actors to perform in their movies. For example, any Marvel movie has many known actors, mainly to grab the audience in their favor.
